Traffic moving slowly on Tangail-Dhaka highway
Saturday, 11 October 2014
A 25-kilometre-long tailback has developed on Tangail-Dhaka highway as a large number of people are returning to Dhaka after the Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja holidays. The vehicles in that stretch – from Elenga to Natiyapara – are moving at a snail’s pace since the early hours of Saturday. The situation on that highway was pretty much the same on Friday, too, causing a lot of sufferings to passengers, mostly coming from the country’s northern and northeastern districts. Highway police’s Elenga outpost in-charge Sergeant Kamruzzaman Raz said extra rush of vehicles and breakdowns were causing the traffic jam. People started returning to Dhaka after spending the Eid and Durga Puja vacations followed by the usual weekend holidays. The heavy rush of traffic on the highways began from Friday, transport workers and passengers said, according to bdnews24.com.
