Train derails on B\\\'bandhu Bridge during storm

SIRAJGANJ, Apr 27 (UNB): Nine bogies of an inter-city train heading towards Dinajpur derailed on Bangabandhu Bridge over the Jamuna river on Sunday night, snapping train communication between Dhaka and northern districts.
Locals said the commuter train, 'Drutajan Express', from Dhaka faced a stormy weather when it reached near pillar No 56 of the bridge around 11:15 pm and then nine of its coaches got derailed.
However, there was no casualty in the incident.
The derailed coaches tilted towards the bridge's west side, said the sources, adding that a violent storm was sweeping the area when the incident occurred.
On information, police and fire service men rushed to the spot. Following the incident, train communication remained suspended between Dhaka and northern districts.
Meanwhile, a salvage train reached the spot from Dhaka at about 5:00am and started rescue operation.
The railway communication resumed in late afternoon.
BSS adds: The Railway Ministry formed on Monday a four-member committee, headed by Amjad Hossain, additional director general (infrastructure) of the railway department, to probe the train accident on the Bangabandhu Bridge.
The other members of the committee are: Additional Director General Zahirul Islam, Additional Director General Khalilur Rahman and General Manager (west) Abdul Awal Bhuiyan
Railway Director General (DG) Tafazzal Hosain said the committee has been asked to submit its report within the next three days.
He said the accident caused sudden disruption in the train services between Dhaka and other parts of the southern and northern areas of the country.
Railway Minister Mujibul Haque visited the spot and instructed the concerned authorities to form the investigation committee. Railway Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Bangladesh Railway Tofazzal Hosain and senior officers concerned accompanied the minister.
