Three people have been injured critically when their car was hit by a train on the railway track at the Malibagh rail crossing in the city. Dhaka Railway Police Station OC Abdul Majid said the accident took place around 5pm on Friday. Kamalapur Railway Station’s Traffic Inspector Humayun Kabir said the ‘Chattala Express’ train was on its way to Chittagong from Dhaka. The car was crumpled by the impact of the crash, he said. Railway Assistant Director (operations) Syedur Rahman said the level crossing gates were down as the train was approaching. ‘But that private car got on to the crossing from the opposite side, and then suddenly its engine stopped,’ he said. ‘The train’s driver started blowing the whistle and slowed down the train. Even so the car was hit and was dragged for some distance,’ he said, according to bdnews24.com.
