Train service from Dhaka restored after hours of halt due to derailment

FE REPORT | Friday, 8 December 2023

Train services between Dhaka and other parts of the country were disrupted for five hours on Thursday due to a derailment near Tejgaon station in the city.
Eventually, authorities managed to restore the train service using the crane from the Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) project to lift the locomotive.
According to Bangladesh Railway officials, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm on Thursday when a train named "Titas," travelling from Akhaura, collided with a crane from the Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE).
Several individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Masud Sarwar, the Kamlapur Station Manager, mentioned that the station couldn't operate any trains or receive incoming ones due to the accident.
AHMS Akhtar, the DEE Project Director, quickly arrived at the scene after the incident.
He mentioned that three cranes from the project area were involved in the rescue operation. He explained that the collision took place at a crossing near Tejgaon station.
The crane operator reportedly faced visibility issues due to heavy rainfall, which led to the collision.
