Train trial run likely in Sept

CHATTOGRAM, June 16: The trial run of train on Chattogram-Dohazari-Cox's Bazar-Ghumdhum (CDCG) rail line is expected to begin in
September this year as the construction work of the project is going on in full swing.
Project Director of the CDCG train route project Mohammad Mofizur Rahman said, "Over 85% of the construction work of the project has been completed. The remaining work will be finished by August to start a trial run of train on the route in September."
He said, "There were rail lines from Chattogram to Dohazari. We are constructing rail lines from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar. The construction work has almost been completed."
General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (Easteren Zone) Md Jahangir Hossain said, "We are preparing to start the trial run of train with the imported Korean coaches on CDCG rail route in September this year."
"We have submitted a proposal to start more than one train on the route after the inauguration. We will meet the demands of tourists as well as the locals gradually once the CDCG train service starts," he added.
Sources said the construction work of 85 km railway lines of 128 km from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar has already been completed. The construction work of three railway stations out of nine have been completed so far. Moreover, two to three more railway stations will be prepared by September.
According to project officials, a total of 128 km single line and dual gauge rail line is being constructed between Dohazari and Cox's Bazar. There are 39 major bridges and 242 culverts in this rail line. Besides, underpasses and overpasses are being built for the movement of elephants.
Sources said that the project was scheduled to be completed within June 2022. However, the construction could not be completed within the scheduled time due to Coronavirus outbreak and other reasons. Later, the deadline of the CDCG project completion was extended until July, 2024. As the work of the project is progressing fast, the authorities concerned are hopeful to complete the project before the extended schedule.
The 128-km rail route will have nine railway stations at Satkania, Lohagora, Chokoria, Dulahazra, Eidgao, Ramu, Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ukhiya, and Ghumdhum. These stations will have computer-based interlocking signal system and fully digitalised telecommunications network.
