Training for journalists begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 20 (BSS): A two-day training for the journalists on Disaster and its Reduction and Climate Change-Adaptation began at the conference room of district collectorate building here this morning.
Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) has arranged the training in cooperation with comprehensive disaster management programme funded by Government of Bangladesh, UKAID, European Union, Norwegian Embassy, Sweden, Australian Aid and UNDP.
A simple function was also held on the occasion with senior journalist Gobinda Lal Das in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Ehsan-e-Elahi inaugurated the training course as the chief guest and additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique was present as the special guest.
The inaugural session was also addressed, among others, by senior trainer of PIB Rafiza Rahman and assistant trainer Tania Parvin.
Speaking on the occasion, DC M. Ehsan-e-Elahi said the country has been experiencing an abnormal climate change in the recent years due to geographical setting creating adverse effects to agriculture, food, human health, livelihood, navigation, ecology, soil, environment and biodiversity. In this context, the DC urged all, particularly the media men to make report about climate change in their respective media to create awareness.
