Training on health, nutrition of mother and child held in Jhenidah

JHENIDAH, Feb 23: Speakers at a training programme recently held on Health and Nutrition of Mother and Child at Jhenidah Sadar Upazila Auditorium organised by Comprehensive Village Development Programme (CVDP) laid emphasis on development of mother and child health on using environment-friendly Bandhu Chula (furnace).
Zulkar Nayan, UNO, Sadar, Jhenidah, Upazila Woman Vice-chairman Tahura Khatun, Family Planning Officer Shahjahan, medical officer Prabir Kumar, Gazi Nazrul Islam, Assistant Project Director, CVDP, Jhenidah Sadar, Jhenidah and Rajib Hasan, divisional manager, Bandhu Chula Foundation spoke during the session.
The speakers highlighted the benefits of development of mother and child health and family planning.
They urged the participants to receive the services which are available at the union and upazila level health and family planning centres.
UNO, the chief discussant, terming Jhenidah as a suicide-prone region stressed the need to raise awareness against committing suicide emotionally.
Tahura Khatun in her speech laid emphasis on increasing consciousness against child marriage and dowry.
In an effort to motivate the cooperatives present at the program; the speakers also discussed the benefits of using Bandhu Chula in details.
UNO Zulkar Nayon said, "Bandhu Chula is environment friendly and cheaper than other ovens of this kind. I use this chula at my official residence too."
Khanchannagar Digital CVDCS Ltd, one of the well performing cooperative societies, is implementing the activities related to production, marketing and after sale services of the chulas.
Gazi Nazrul Islam in his speech said, "50 per cent members will be given Bandhu Chula by June, and the rest members will be provided with ovens by the end of this year."
Around one hundred cooperatives from Jhenidah Sadar Upazila participated at the training session.
The discussion being over, Bandhu Chulas were distributed among the interested members of the cooperative societies.
