Transparent, accountable public service stressed

RAJSHAHI, Dec 6 (BSS): Speakers at a daylong advocacy workshop have underscored the need for ensuring a transparent and accountable public service delivery for the sake of freeing the nation from the curse of corruption in every spheres of the civil service sector.
In this regard, they viewed that formulation of a demand- based citizen's charter alongside its full-length application together with changing the mindset of all the civil servants and others concerned could be effective means of attaining the cherished goal.
They were addressing the divisional level workshop styled "Citizens charter for quality improvement of service delivery" in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner Office Sunday.
Ministry of Establishment under its 'Civil Service Change Management Program' organised the workshop aimed at devising ways and means on how to formulate an effective and pro-people citizen's charter for the second generation.
With commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Mannan in the chair, vice chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Abdus Sobhan addressed the inaugural session as the chief guest while joint secretary of the ministry AM Badruddoza as special guest.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Swapan Qumar Roy and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Dilwar Bakth also spoke on the occasion.The speakers underscored the need for a close-relation between the service providers and the service receivers so that the hopes and aspirations of the people in general are reflected properly.
In this regard, they favored building awareness among the general public about their rights on the service delivery institutions and said the field level civil servants have a vital role in this regard.
"We have no way but to ensure a transparent civil administration to attain success in every spheres of life," said Prof Abdus Sobhan adding that the present government is very much positive in this regard.
In his address of welcome, focal point of the program and Deputy Secretary of the ministry Abu Taz Md Zakir Hossain gave an overview of the program seeking positive and effective suggestions from the participants to formulate a time-fitting citizen charter.
In the plenary session, the participants put forward a set of recommendations which included digitized civil services and peoples-friendly service delivery.
Above 62 civil servants including members of the civil society and other stakeholders form eight districts of the division attended the workshop.
