Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said efficient, transparent, and accountable land management plays an important role in the country's economic growth.
The land minister said land was an essential element in the overall economic development of the country.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a two-day workshop on 'Integrated and Comprehensive Land Administration in Bangladesh' organised by the Ministry of Land, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and the World Bank at a hotel in Dhaka on Monday.
Land Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman was present.
Saifuzzaman Chowdhury expressed hope that if the land registration under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs would be completed quickly, it would be interconnected with the Land Ministry's Mutation nationwide.
At the same time, when the Bangladesh digital survey would be completed nationwide, there would be no need to go to the field, the land minister said,
"Our aim is to let the buyer know" the history of land ownership online before buying, he noted.
The Land Secretary said that cases had already been filed with the Judicial Court under the Land Crime Prevention and Redress (or Remedy) Act.
"We are observing these. Apart from this, the work on making the rules of this law is also progressing rapidly. The issue of women's property rights to inherited wealth is being addressed very seriously", he said.
Former Secretary and Chairman of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited, Nazrul Islam Khan; Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Land, Dr. Md. Jahid Hossain Panir; World Bank Lead Land Administration Specialist, Mika-Petteri Törhönen; and World Bank Senior Land Administration Specialist, Dong Kyu Kwak, among others, were present on the first day of the workshop.
