Transport leader chopped to death

Miscreants chopped to death a Jhenidah transport workers’ union leader and a local Awami League leader in Jhenidah town on Monday. The dead is Abdul Gaffar Bishwas, 43, general secretary of Jhenidah Bus-Minibus Workers’ Union and son of late Babar Ali Bishwas of Alhera Para in the town. He was also a local AL leader. Locals said a gang of miscreants, equipped with sharp weapons, swooped on Gaffar. The criminals chopped him indiscriminately and left him beside a bridge at Ararpur in the district town around 4:00am. On information, police rescued Gaffar and took him to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, according to a news agency.
