FE Report
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan Saturday urged the road transport owners to provide appointment letters to the workers, so that they can realise their insurance claims and welfare fund. "Road transport is an important service sector. The transport workers have been relentlessly working for the development of the sector. The owners and labourers can play an equal role to uplift the sector further," he said. He was speaking as the chief guest at the National Conference 2011 of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (BSPSF), held after 17 years in the city. "The labourers' movement is not against the government, rather it is a move to establish their own rights," the shipping minister said. He also said the government considers taking actions against the drivers for road accidents under the section 304 instead of the section 302. Shahjahan Khan called upon all political parties to come forward for implementing the labourers' demands. President of BSPSF Waziuddin Khan presided over the function. President of Sramik Dal Md Nazrul Islam Khan, general secretary of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal Khalequzzaman, acting general secretary of BSPSF Md Osman Ali and joint general secretary Advocate Shamsur Rahman Simul Biswas, general secretary of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Khandaker Enayetullah, general secretary of Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners Association Rustam Ali Khan, and ITF representative Sangam Tripoti, among others, were present at the programme. Later, a rally was brought out on different roads of the city.
