Wednesday, 24 September 2008

FE Report
The bus owners, drivers and employees at Gabtoli bus terminal observed strike from 3pm to 5pm Tuesday in support of their demand for immediate arrest of the killers of transport worker Parvez.
Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners' Association (BBTOA) and Bangladesh Road-Transport Workers' Federation (BRTWF) also warned the government of enforcing a strike for indefinite period in transport sector from October 14 next if the administration failed to arrest and punish the killers of Parvez.
The transport sector leaders gave the warning from a protest rally, held at Gabtoli bus terminal with BBTOA chairman GM Siraj in the chair.
It was addressed, among others, by BRTWF executive chairman Shahjahan Khan, and its general secretary Habibur Rahman Khan.
They said that Parvez, a counterman of Sohag Paribahan, was gunned down by some terrorists at Gabtoli bus terminal September 11 when he refused to give them toll.
A case was filed with Gabtoli police station but the administration failed to arrest the killers of Parvez.
They set October 13 deadline for the government to take action against the extortionists and killers of Parvez.
The transport owners and workers alleged that a terrorist group, named Shahadat group, was controlling the whole thing from behind the scene.
They alleged that the terrorist group had been demanding Tk 5.0 million as toll from the owner of Sohag Paribahan over phone.
