Transport strike continues in Chuadanga
Wednesday, 11 June 2014
Transport owners and workers have enforced an indefinite strike in Chuadanga to protest 'vandalism'. Bus services were suspended on all routes of the south-western district since Wednesday morning. Auto-rickshaw drivers damaged two buses in the morning to protest a demand for banning 'unauthorised' vehicles on main roads by bus owners and workers, said Rabiul Haque, one of the workers who called the strike. The strike was called to protest 'vandalism', said Nasir Joarder, general secretary of Chuadanga Bus-Minibus Owners' Group. He demanded arrest of those responsible for 'vandalism' - or else he threatened to continue their strike. Chuadanga Sadar Police Station's SI Khalilur Rahman said additional police have been deployed in the district town to fend off any clash. Chuadanga Assistant Superintendent of Police (circle/Sadar) Md Quamruzzaman said they had a meeting with the bus owners and workers. He hoped to reach a solution, according to bdnews24.com.
