Transport strike cuts off Lalmonirhat

Saturday, 8 November 2014

A transport strike in Lalmonirhat has stopped all good-laden and passenger-carrying vehicles from plying in and out of the district. The indefinite strike called by the truck and tank-lorry workers union, to press for their two demands, came into effect on Saturday. Bus operations have also stopped after the Lalmonirhat Bus Workers’ Union and other similar unions endorsed the strike. Lalmonirhat District Truck and Tank-lorry Workers Union president Pulin Chandra on Saturday said they were demanding arrest of those behind an attack on the union’s office. The workers also want authorities to make sure they face no further attacks. The strike would continue if their demands were not met, he said, according to bdnews24.com.
