Transport strike in Sunamganj
Saturday, 5 July 2014
Transport workers in Sunamganj have called an indefinite strike in the district. They are protesting the punishment meted out to one of their workers by a mobile court. Vehicles were off road on all routes within the district since on Saturday morning. The workers demonstrated in the town’s Wagekhali Bus Stand demanding his release. On June 30, a mobile court sentenced driver Abul Kashem to one month in jail for defying traffic signal on Sylhet-Sunamganj road. The district’s Workers’ Union announced the protest programme on Friday night. ‘We will continue the strike until the driver is released,’ the union’s president Abdul Kahar said. The strike has caused sufferings to hundreds of passengers, according to bdnews24.com.
