Transport strike postponed till Nov 30

Wednesday, 12 November 2014

Sylhet Division Road Transport Owner-Worker Action Council postponed its transport strike in the division on Tuesday afternoon, several hours into the enforcement. The decision came at a meeting between the workers’ representatives and divisional commissioner Sazzdul Hasan, said Anisuzzaman Juahir, a member of Division Road Transport Owner-Worker Action Council. Anisuzzaman Juahir said they postponed the strike till November 30 as the administration assured them of meeting their demands. In the morning, the transport workers went on an indefinite strike in the 4 districts of the north-eastern division to press home their 7-point demand, including scrapping road permits of CNG-run auto-rickshaws and four-wheeled tempos known as Ima-Leguna, and banning all kinds of battery-driven three-wheelers on highways. Due to the strike enforced at 6am, the road communications between Sylhet and other parts of the country came to a halt, causing immense sufferings to commuters, according to UNB.
