Transport workers go for indefinite strike at Benapole from today

JESSORE, May 9:  Transport workers at Benapole land port have announced for an indefinite strike from Sunday protesting the alleged bribery of the officer in-charge of immigration police.
The strike call was given at a press conference held at Benapole Press Club held on Friday afternoon.
In the press conference, it was told that Aslam Khan, officer in-charge, Benapole immigration police was harassing travellers at the international land port demanding huge amount of money.
Passport holders who travel by buses on Dhaka- Kolkata route were charged between Tk 500 and 15,000 before going to India as bribes.
Shahidul Islam, manager, Shohagh Paribahan, Subrata Ghosh, manager, Green Line, Gias Uddin, manager, Shymali Paribahan, Hazi Nazrul Islam, manager, Saudia Paribahan and a number of transport workers were present at the press conference.
Denying the allegation, the immigration OC Aslam Khan told journalists when asked about the allegation that it was propaganda against him as he ousted employees of different transports from customs office.
'None of my men and I were involved in any form of bribery,' he said.
