Transport workers run amok in Gazipur

Transport workers on Friday blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for an hour and vandalised over 15 vehicles at Gazipur over the assault of a truck driver on Thursday night.
Police said there had been loggerhead between two local Jubo League leaders- Faruk and Shah Alam over extortion of truck stand in Cheragali area of Tongi town.
As a sequel of the enmity, Shah Alam and his followers beat up a truck driver on Thursday night, a news agency report said.
Enraged by the incident, transport workers blocked the highway and vandalised 15 vehicles.
A chase and counter-chase took place between police and the transport workers when police tried to obstruct them, leaving 10 people injured.
However, the agitated transport workers removed the blocked on assurance of action against the attackers by police.
