MUNSHIGANJ, Oct 23 (bdnews24.com): Fire service divers have recovered bodies of the four passengers who went missing after a trawler carrying them sank in the river Ichhamoti Friday.
Bodies of Bangladesh Shamoy staff reporter Mahiuddin Chhoton (26), businessmen Golam Kibria Kanok (30), Shahidul Islam Azad (38) and Imran of Narayanganj were recovered Saturday afternoon.
Around 60 passengers were on board when the vessel sank 1.5 kilometres away from the Sadar Upazila on its way to the Lalon festival at Tekerhat of Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan Upazila at around 9.30 pm Friday.
Sirajdikhan police chief Mahbub Alam quoted witnesses that the trawler sank after it collided with a sand-laden trawler and most of the passengers managed to swim ashore.
About 10 passengers were injured and were sent
to hospitals in Munshiganj and Dhaka, police sources said.
Mahbub Alam said that the accident occurred as none of the vessels had search lights. No one was arrested in this connection and the sand-laden trawler had been seized, Alam added.
Munshiganj Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kamrul Islam told the news agency that the fire service divers located the sunken trawler in the early hours of Saturday. However, there were no bodies in the vessel.
