Trawler capsizes in Meghna River

A passenger-packed trawler capsized in Meghna River in Tazumuddin Upailza in Bhola district on Thursday afternoon. Witnesses said, the trawler, with over 60 passengers on board, capsized after hitting a shoal (hidden char) near Badshaw Miar Char around 3:30pm. Passing trawlers and boats rescued some passengers from the river while some other passengers of the capsized trawler managed to swim ashore. Rescued passengers said the trawler (motor-propelled large boat) tilted to its one side and sank after hitting the shoal. It took 60 people, mostly picnickers, from Lalmohan upazila's Gazaria Friends Club and was heading towards Manpura Char, according to aprivate TV channels.
