Trawler with 100 sinks in Noakhali: Most rescued

NOAKHALI, Oct 10: A trawler with over 100 passengers on board sank in the Meghna River near Chairmanghat in Hatiya uapzila Friday. Hatiya Thana officer-in-charge Syed Fazle Rabbi said the trawler, 'Rebeka', that left Nalchira Ghat around 9 am hit an emerging shoal and sank in the river around 11 am while heading towards Chairmanghat. Hearing the screams of people, locals rushed to the spot by speedboats and trawlers and rescued most of the passengers, Fazle Rabbi said. He, however, could not exactly say how many passengers remained missing. — UNB
