A passenger-packed trawler, on its way to Malaysia, is stuck at the Bay of Bengal after its engine broke down, locals and Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel reported. The trawler, with 350 passengers on board, was going to Malaysia, according to local fishermen. They said the Myanmar’s border police fired on it, but it is yet to be officially confirmed. Coast Guard’s Teknaf commanding officer (CO) Lt Harun Ur Rashid said that three of their vessels are heading towards the trawler to rescue the stranded passengers. The trawler’s predicament came to light after its passenger Ziaur Rahman called his family at Teknaf from his mobile phone, said a member of Sabrang Union Parishad of Teknaf Upazila.
