Tree collapses kill 2 in Cox\\\'s Bazar, Bhola

A man and a woman were killed as trees collapsed on them for strong wind and heavy rainfall in Bangladesh's two coastal districts, under the influence of cyclonic storm 'Komen' that moved slightly northeastwards early Thursday. In Bhola, a housewife was killed as a tree collapsed on her at Char Kochuakhali village in coastal Lalmohan upazila on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Monzuma Begum, 55, wife of Sobahan Mollah, a resident of the village. She died as a tree, uprooted by strong wind, fell on her early in the morning. In Cox's Bazar, a man was killed as a tree collapsed on him during storm and heavy rainfall early Thursday, triggered by 'Komen' in Saint Martin's Island under Teknaf upazila. Identity of the deceased could not be known. Abdul Haque, acting chairman of Saint Martin's Union Parishad, said the man was killed as a tree uprooted by strong wind fell on him around 3:30am. At least fifty per cent houses in the union were damaged or partly damaged due to strong wind. he said. All communications with the island were cut off after 4:00am, he added, according to a news agency.
