Tremendous sale as hundreds throng SME fair in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 22 (BSS): Huge sale of the locally produced goods was witnessed on the third day on Friday as hundreds of people thronging the SME fair being arranged here for both men and women small and medium enterprise(SME).
SME Foundation organised the five-day fair at Green Plaza in the city to promote local SME sector, enhance production of quality SME products, exhibition and introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and commerce.
In the fair, a huge spectrum of locally produced SME goods including leather products, jute-made products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products are being exhibited in around 50 stalls.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, MP, opened the Regional SME Fair-2014, Rajshahi on Wednesday as the chief guest said the country has already achieved tremendous uplift in every sector with the participation of both men and women on its way to become a middle income nation soon under the leadership of Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina.
Talking to BSS here on the occasion, Moniruzzaman, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said more expansion of investment to the SME sector is needed for bolstering economic condition of both urban and rural areas together with freeing the society from the vicious circle of poverty.
As the SME sector as labour-intensive so its successful promotion could be the effective means of alleviating poverty, generating employment and thereby accelerating economic growth.
Explaining various aspects of SMEs towards the region's economic development the chamber leader said the government has taken different initiatives for SME development including need based training and information technology.
He urged the local entrepreneurs to come forward for proper utilization of the initiatives to make the region economically solvent.
He, however, said that SMEs sector could be the ways of effective utilization of the country's surplus manpower. In fact, developing of the sector requires less capital outlay and at the same time it provides more employment than the large-scale sector.
