Trial against Oishee, 2 others deferred until July 8

The formal trial of Oishee Rahman along with her two friends in a case filed for killing her police officer father Mahfuzur Rahman and mother Swapna Rahman will now begin on July 8. Judge M Jahurul Haque of Dhaka’s Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court deferred the recording of the evidence of witnesses on Thursday as the complainant of the case, Mashiur Rahman, could not appear before the court due to illness. Framing charges against Oishee and her friends Mizanur Rahman Jony and Asaduzzaman Rony, the same court on May 6 fixed June 5 for the trial to begin with the deposition of witnesses. Besides, a juvenile court on May 20 framed charges against another accused, Khadiza Islam, a domestic help. The court also granted her bail in the case. On August 16 last year, police recovered the bodies of Special Branch Police Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital. Later, Oishee surrendered to the police confessing to her involvement in the killing, according to UNB.
