Trial of 256 mutineers begins in city

Trial of 256 mutineers of BDR Hospital Unit began Wednesday at the makeshift special court at the Darbar Hall of BDR Headquarters where 73 people were killed in the Feb 25-26 carnage last year, reports UNB.
BDR Director General Maj General Mainul Islam presiding over the three-member court took cognisance of the offence committed by the mutineers. He ordered all the 256 accused be produced today (Thursday) morning when the hearing resumes.
Of them, 90 are detained in prison and 166 are in the barracks.
Court sources said that Nayek Subedar and Medical Assistant Nannu Miah submitted the allegations against them.
Deputy Attorney-General Kazi Izharu was assisting the court in trial of the much talked about BDR mutineers under the law of the border force.
After hearing the prosecution court issued directives to the prosecutor to show 90 detained mutineers arrested and send the 166 mutineers to jail after taking them in custody from the barracks.
