Trial of killers of journalist couple Sagar-Runi demanded

Members of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) will observe a daylong token hunger strike on March 31 on its premises demanding the trial of the killers of journalist-couple Sagar and Runi, reports UNB.
DRU president Shahed Chowdhury announced the programme at a memorial meeting held at its office, marking the second death anniversary of the TV journalist couple, also the members of the organisation.
"We'll observe a token hunger strike from morning to evening on March 31 on the DRU premises to push for the trial of our two slain members -- Sagar and Runi," Shahed told the meeting.
He also warned that they will go for tougher programmes like fast unto death and road blockade with shrouds if the government does not take any visible steps for ensuring justice to the family members of the couple.
Sagar's mother Saleha Munir, Runi's brother Naosher Alam and the couple's only sun Mahir Sarowar Megh and DRU leaders were, among others, present at the meeting.
On February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were stabbed to death by unidentified people at their rented apartment in the city's Razabazar area.
Shahed vowed that the DRU will continue its movement until the trial is held, no matter who are with them or not.
The meeting began after observing a one-minute silence in memory of Sagar and Runi.
Sagar's mother Saleha Munir also spoke at the programme, and urged the journalists to continue their movement to force the government to ensure justice to them.
"We want justice … Runi's mothers and we all family members want to die seeing justice done to us. I'll keep on pressing for the trail of the murder till my death," she said with tears rolling down her cheek.
The couple's six-year-old boy, Megh, was brought before the microphone to say a few words at the memorial meeting, but he declined to say anything.
