Trial of war criminals, uplift of N region demanded

RANGPUR, Dec 17 (BSS): Speakers at a Victory Day discussion here Wednesday demanded trial of the war criminals, killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and enemies of independence.
They also demanded uniform development of the country including the neglected and economically backward northern region and said that Bangabandhu led the nation towards independence and dreamt for building an exploitation free society.
They regretted that the country's northern region, which produced surplus food grains for the whole country, still remained neglected. They expressed the hope that the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would ensure smooth development of the region.
Deputy Commissioner BM Enamul Haque presided over the discussion titled 'Importance of the War of Independence, Economic Development and Prosperity and Achieving Self-reliance in Every Sphere of National Life.'
The discussion was organised as part of the national programme in observance of the Victory Day-2009.
