The victim was identified as Paini Marma, 45, wife of late Mongsajai Mamra of the village. Quoting local people, police said Paini, mother of two children, lives in her house alone. On Friday night, a group of miscreants swooped on the house of the woman and stabbed her indiscriminately around 8:30 am, leaving her critically injured. Later she was rushed to a local hospital from where she was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Manikchari Police Station, said the woman had long been involved in producing local liquor and selling the item to the local people. Miscreants might have attacked her over a business-related issue, the OC added. However, police are conducting a drive to track down the attackers, he said further, according to a news agency.
