Friday, 31 July 2009

The government Thursday called upon the international community to come forward to cooperate with the government of Bangladesh through providing culpable deeds and evidences for the trial of war criminals, reports UNB.
"The government has already brought necessary amendments to the International Crime Tribunal Act 1973 to update it to make the trial of war criminals transparent and acceptable both internationally and locally," Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said while making the request.
He said the government would soon form investigation team, prosecution and tribunal with skilled and experienced persons.
He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a two-day international conference in the morning at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
Prof Salah Uddin Ahmed presided over the opening session of the meet organised by the Muktijoddha Jadughar.
Barrister Shafique said many countries and international organisations extended their support to the government move for holding the trial of war criminals, and provisions have been kept in the act for ensuring fair trial.
