Tribunal hears witnesses in Ishwardi

PABNA, Nov 6: For the second day the freedom fighters and other locals of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna stood witnesses to the international crimes tribunal probe team on Friday. The tribunal probe team led by prosecutor Sayed Rejaur Rahman visited Ishwardi Loco-shed, Pakshey Railway colony, Jhautola, Vuter Goly killing spots of the upazila.
Some 2 thousand people including freedom fighters and common people were killed in Ishwardi upazila during the liberation war with the help of collaborators led by Jamaat leader Moulana Motiur Rahman, Moulana Abdus Subhan and Tasnim Alam locals and the freedom fighters informed the team. The non-Bengali people known as Bihari were directly involved with the occupation troops and killed innocent people here, they informed the team.
"Local collaborators led by Moulana Islmail and Khoda Box caught my father Moazzem Hossain on April 12 in 1971 and brutally killed him in loco-shed pump station area. My family never could forget the tragic moment of the day," Tahurul Islam, son of the martyr and also an eye witness told the probe team. Over 4 to 5 hundred innocent people were killed with the help of the local collaborators in Loco-shed pump station area which was a torture camp during the liberation war, he said.
Freedom fighter of the upazila Fazlur Rahman Fantu said the local collaborators and non-Bengli people helped the occupation army and killed innocent people of the upazila during the liberation war.
Over 5 hundred people were killed in loco-shed Pump House area, over 100 to 125 people in Ishwardi Vuter Goly area and in the same way over 2 thousand killed here during the liberation war, Fantu said.
Most of the freedom fighters and the locals claimed that some 70 to 80 collaborators including non-Bengali people here committed war crime in the upazila. They cited the names of Moulana Ismail, Khoda Box, Siraj, Riaz and some other collaborates as they were in front men of the collaborators team.
Rezaur Rahman, the prosecutor of the tribunal and also the head of the 11-member probe team said that they have visited the killing spots. We have learnt the names of some local collaborators followed by Moulana Motiur Rahman Nizami, Abdus Subhan, and then minister Moulana Ishhaque.
The international crimes tribunal is due to visit the mass killing spots of Santhia upazila, Saturday.
