Tribunal orders further probe into Kibria killing

HABIGANJ, Jan 5 (UNB): The Speedy Trial Tribunal in Sylhet on Thursday ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to conduct further investigation into former Finance Minister SAMS Kibria killing case.
Tribunal judge Dilip Kumer Devnath passed the order after hearing the petition of Kibria's wife Asma Kibria and Abdul Matin, son of Abul Hossain who was also killed in the grenade attack.
The judge also ordered the CID to carry out fresh probe by a senior police officer.
District Bar Association president and Awami League leader Alamgir Bhuiyan submitted the naraji (objection) petition to Habiganj cognisance court on behalf of Asma Kibria on June 28, 2011 against the supplementary charge sheet filed by the CID in the case. The court sent it to Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal.
On November 15, a one-hour hearing was held on the petition. After the hearing, judge Dilip Kumer Devnath fixed January 5 for the next hearing.
Kishore Kumar Kar, special prosecutor of the tribunal, prosecutor and Awami League central organizer Mijbahuddin Siraj, lawyer of Habiganj Ruhul Hasan Sharif and Abdul Matin's lawyer Shamim Ahmed pleaded for further investigation terming the charge-sheet incomplete.
CID senior SP Rafiqul Islam submitted the charge-sheet on June 20 against 14 people, including former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and Harkat-ul-Jihad kingpin Mufti Hannan.
Earlier, then senior ASP of CID Munshi Atiquur Rahman submitted a charge-sheet against 10 accused in the case on March 20, 2005. But they were all found innocent in further investigation conducted by another senior ASP Md Rafiqul Islam after four years.
Former Finance Minister SAMS Kibria, his nephew AL leader advocate Shah Manzurul Huda and local AL leaders Abdur Rahim, Abul Hossain and Siddique Ali were killed and 70 people injured in a grenade attack at a public meeting at Baidderbazar of Habiganj Sadar Upazila on January 17, 2005.
Two cases were filed with Habiganj sadar thana on the same night.
