Tribunal reading Mobarak verdict

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has started reading a 92-page verdict on Md Mobarak Hossain accused of war crimes in Brahmanbaria during Bangladesh's Liberation War. The alleged Razakar commander was produced in the courtroom at 11:10am on Sunday. Judges of the 3-member tribunal soon arrived and Chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim made the opening remarks. Justice Anwarul Haque then began reading the 92-page verdict at 11:22am. Hossain, expelled from the Awami League in 2011, has five charges of murder, abduction, torture and loot against him. They describe the killing of 33 villagers of Akhaura’s Tanmandayl and Jangail, the abduction and killing of college student ‘Ashu Ranjan’, the torturing and killing of Abdul Khaleque, Abdul Malek and Md Siraj of Kharompur village. Born in Akahura, Hossain was associated with Jamaat-e-Islami politics. A prison van brought the 64-year-old from the Dhaka Central Jail to the court premises at 9:20am, according to bdnews24.com.
