Tribute paid to Mosharraf Hossain

A condolence meeting on late Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain, a former member of the parliament and business leader, was held after Asr prayers on Monday in the board room of The Financial Express at Topkhana Road in the city. Chairman of International Publications Limited (IPL), the owning company of the Financial Express (FE), and International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director of the IPL and Chairman of Ispahani Group Mirza Ali Behrouz Ispahani, directors of IPL Ragib Ali, Zakiuddin Ahmed, Afrooz Rahim, Sayeed Hasan, Rizwan Rahman, Editor of The Financial Express Moazzam Hossain, Executive Editor Shahiduzzaman Khan, Joint Editor Shamsul Haque Zahid and News Consultant Mashuqul Huq joined the condolence meeting, conducted by the FE Editor. The meeting was followed by a milad and munajat (special prayers). Eminent business personality, politician and social worker Mosharraf Hossain passed away on August 18 at United Hospital in the city at the age of 74. He was suffering from heart-related complications. He also took treatment in Singapore for a couple of occasions before he breathed his last at the United Hospital. He left behind his wife, three daughters and a host of relatives, friends, colleagues and admirers to mourn his death. He was buried at Banani Graveyard. Mosharraf Hossain, who was born on January 22, 1940, in a respectable family of Sonagazi Upazila of Feni district, had a chequered career in the country’s business and political arena. He was chairman of the country’s leading manpower export organisation Bay Eastern Limited. He was also the president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), and played a remarkable role in sending local workers to different countries, especially in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia. At the early stage, he was the president of the BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) and had a great contribution to flourishing the readymade garment industry in the country. He was one of the sponsor-directors of the IPL, a leading media house in the country, and a member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council.
