Tributes paid to Bhasha Matin

Many a man from all walks of life paid their last homage to Abdul Matin, a forerunner of the historic language movement in 1952, showering flower petals and wreaths on his body at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital Thursday, reports UNB.
Earlier his coffin was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar at 12 pm for the public to pay their tributes.
Abdul Matin, popularly known as Bhasha Matin, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital on Wednesday morning at the age of 88.
Later, Matin's body, according to his last wish, was handed over to the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Anatomy Department for the purpose of learning. DMC vice-principal Dr M Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury received the body from Gul Badannessa, wife of the deceased. Earlier, his eyes were donated to Shandhani immediately after he breathed his last. Health Minister Mohammad Nasim along with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid paid last respect to the language veteran on behalf of Bangladesh Awami League. BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with Nazrul Islam Khan, Hannan Shah, Mirza Abbas and Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel represented the BNP in paying last homage to Bhasha Matin.
Besides, different political parties, including left parties, socio-cultural and student organisations, teachers, littérateurs, journalists, artistes and important personalities, also paid their homage to Bhasha Matin.
