Tributes paid to blogger Avijit Roy

The body of slain blogger Avijit Roy was donated to Dhaka Medical College for medical research and education Sunday after people paid their last respects to him on the Dhaka University campus, report agencies.
Avijit's family members took the decision to donate the body as per his pervious wish.
Ajoy Roy, father of Avijit and a former teacher of Dhaka University, handed over the body to Prof Shamim Ahmed, Head of Anatomy Department of the college at around at 1:07 pm.
Earlier, people from all walks of life paid their last tributes to Avijit Roy showering petals and placing wreaths on his body at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the Dhaka University campus in the morning.
His coffin was taken to the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla around 10:40am.
Later, people from all walks of life, including his friends, well-wishers, students and teachers of the university, paid their last homage.
Prof Muntasir Mamun, Ramendra Majumdar, Vice Chancellor of National University Prof Harun-or-Rashid, general secretary of BSD  Khalekuzzaman, DU professor Sadrul Amin, president of Shammilito  Sangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus and general secretary Hasan Arif, were present.
Progressive Student Alliance, a platform of leftist student organisations, called Saturday a strike at the Dhaka University for Monday protesting the gruesome murder of the US expatriate blogger.
Meanwhile, the government has taken up the US offer to engage its Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the brutal murder of the writer-blogger Avijit Roy.
