Tributes paid to poet Jibanananda

BARISAL, Oct 25 (UNB): A three-day programme marking the 55th death anniversary of Jibanananda Das, poet of 'Ruposi Bangla', concluded at Barisal City College premises Friday.
Jibanananda Saran Udjapan Parishad of Jatiya Kabita Parishad, Barisal branch, organised the three-day programme.
Dr Syed Azizul Huq, Prof M Hanif, Mehedi Hassan, chief executive officer of BCC, Nikhil Sen, Kajal Ghosh and Toufiq Maruf spoke on the occasion with Aroop Talukdar, convener of the Parishad, in the chair.
They discussed the life, works, achievements of the great poet and his influence on Bangla literature and culture.
Recitation of the poems of Jibanananda and dance and musical soiree on his poems, unveiling the cover of a magazine titled 'Kobi O Kobita' on Jibanananda Das, among other events, were held at the closing ceremony.
The speakers called for more research on life, works, ideology and influence of the poet on Bangla literature and culture.
Shawkat Hossain Hiron, Mayor of Barisal City Corporation, inaugurated the programme at the residence of the poet situated on the Bogra Road area of the city by unveiling the board of 'Jibanananda Angan' here Wednesday.
The BCC mayor announced that West Bogra Road, the road crossing the residential area of poet Jibanananda, will be named 'Jibanananda Sarani'.
