Trivedi sees border issues easing 'soon'

India's New High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has voiced hope that recent tensions and disputes along the border will be resolved "quickly", reports bdnews24.com.
He linked that optimism to what he described as productive discussions between senior officials of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF).
On Thursday, Trivedi shared that view while presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban, formally beginning his assignment in Dhaka.

The former politician turned diplomat later held a courtesy meeting with the president following the credential ceremony, according to President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam.
The press aide said Shahabuddin stressed the need for positive initiatives to resolve unresolved issues, including border-related problems, and to strengthen people-to-people contact between the two neighbouring countries.
Referring to the border situation, Trivedi said recent talks between senior BGB and BSF officials had been constructive.
He also stressed the importance of holding such meetings more regularly at both local and senior levels between border forces and officials of the two countries, expressing confidence that the issues would be resolved soon.
Welcoming the newly appointed envoy, Shahabuddin voiced hope that Trivedi's tenure would help make Bangladesh-India relations "stronger, more productive and more beneficial for the people of both countries".
