Truly democratic society not possible without respecting women --- Chief Justice

FE Report | Tuesday, 27 August 2019

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said a truly democratic society cannot be established if we cannot reduce violence against women and children, and respect them.
The Chief Justice said this as the chief guest in a conference on "Prevention of violence against women and children: National and international perspective" organised by South Asian Lawyers' Forum (SALF) on the Supreme Court premises on Monday.
Judge of the High Court division Justice Naima Haider was present at the programme as the chief speaker. Former Attorney General AF Hasan Ariff, Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate AM Amin Uddin and Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, among others, also spoke. President of SALF Advocate Sheikh Salahuddin Ahmed presided over the conference.
Syed Mahmud Hossain also said, "Judiciary of the country is always responsive to women and children. The Supreme Court has directed all the educational institutions and workplaces in the country to take possible institutional steps to prevent sexual harassment against women and to prosecute such crimes. We hope everyone will follow these instructions."
