Trust Bank, Robi sign deal on Mobile Financial services

FE Report Trust Bank Limited and mobile phone operator Robi Axiata Limited signed an agreement Monday on Mobile Financial Services. Mr. Michael Kuehner - Managing Director & CEO of Robi and Mr. Ishtiaque Ahmed Chowdhury - Managing Director of Trust Bank Ltd. inked the agreement today at the Robi corporate office. Under this agreement, Robi will act as a facilitator for distribution network & Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) provision for Trust Bank Mobile Money Service. The service will be launched very soon. Speaking on the occasion Managing Director & CEO of Robi, Mr. Michael Kuehner said, "We want to enable the people of Bangladesh to do more. Bangladesh needs more mobile banking opportunities which can substantially improve the lives of the people. This initiative will strengthen Robi's commitment to its customers as more mobile financial outlets will make mobile banking even more convenient." "Both Robi and Trust Bank are fully equipped with all the technical requirements to serve this purpose," he added. Mr. Ishtiaque Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Trust Bank Ltd. said, "We believe in financial inclusion so that unbanked population can be taken into the banking services. By providing this service we can take this population into the banking and this was the motto behind our mobile banking services." "With this agreement with Robi, we will be able to use 6000 outlets of Robi for mobile banking purpose," he added. This initiative of Mobile Banking Agreement is a milestone in the area of Mobile Financial Services. It has immense potential in Bangladesh to reach the unbanked communities using USSD, SMS channels to facilitate the last mile banking for financial inclusion with convenience, security and affordability service. Akram Sayeed, Executive Vice President of and other senior officials of both the organizations were present at the signing ceremony. Trust Bank Mobile Money started its grand journey on July 4, 2010. Trust Bank Mobile Money is a savings account facility where Customer can do transactions from anywhere using a mobile phone with 24 hours banking facility. Now Trust Bank serves its nation-wide valuable clients through more than 2450 pay-points under Trust Bank Mobile Money Service. The customer can get TBMM Service from all branches of Trust Bank Ltd and TBL accredited Paypoints, UISC and other mobile phone outlets.
