TSH provides eye treatment to 23,000 patients

THAKURGAON, Oct 16 (BSS) - Thakurgaon Swasthoseba Hospital (TSH) has been providing specialized treatments using the latest technology and equipments on all eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy using laser facilities to prevent blindness. The information was disclosed at a discussion meeting organized today by TSH at its conference room under Bangladesh Diabetic Samity (BADAS) and ORBIS Eye Care Project with the assistance of ORBIS international in observance of the World Sight Day 2011. Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Shahadat Hossain attended the meeting as the chief guest with Executive Director of TSH Dr AKM Ekramul Hossain Swapan in the chair. Dinajpur Civil Surgeon Dr Modud Hossain Rabu, Thakurgaon Civil Surgeon Dr Afzal Hossain Tarafder, Dr Anwar Hossain Raju, Secretary of Thakurgaon BMA Dr Mirajul Islam Sona, Dr Abdul Kader Quraeshi, addressed as special guests. Consultant of BADAS-ORBIS Eye Care Project of TSH Dr SK Abdul Hannan elaborately narrated the available treatment, tests and diagnosis facilities of various eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy in this northern Thakurgaon district. President of Thakurgaon Press Club Akhter Hossain Raja, BSS Senior Reporter Mamun Islam and BSS Thakurgaon Correspondent Syed Merajul Hossain also spoke and forwarded suggestions for expanding available specialized services of TSH to the people. GO-NGO officials and experts, physicians, medical technologists, nurses, journalists from both print and electronic media, socio-cultural and human rights activist were present. In his speech, Dr Shahadat Hossain, highly appreciated the ongoing multidimensional and sophisticated treatments being provided to the people at the lowest costs by TSH in different fields including eye diseases with their experts and specialists. He suggested the physicians of Rangpur division and all concerned for disseminating information among mass people of the region about the available latest laser treatments for diabetic retinopathy patients at TSH after Dhaka, Chittagong and Bogra. Dr Ekramul Hossain Swapan informed the meeting that TSH has so far provided eye treatments to nearly 23,000 patients and conducted various operations and provided laser treatments to over 2,460 eye patients during the past two years.
