Defending champion Lley-ton Hewitt suffered a shock second round exit at Queen's Club when he lost 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-2) to qualifier Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, reports BBC.
The four-times champion broke the Frenchman to take the second set to a tie-break but could not save the match.
French Open champion Rafael Nadal warmed up for Wimbledon with a 6-4 6-4 win over Juan Martin del Potro.
Alex Bogdanovic beat Jamie Baker 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 in an all-British clash, while Novak Djokovic also won.
Meantime, Marat Safin polished off his rain-hit Artois Championships match against Sebastien Grosjean in ruthless fashion.
The Russian, seeded eighth at Queen's, won six straight points to complete a 3-6 6-4 6-4 victory and set up a third-round tie against Ivo Karlovic.
Third seed Fernando Gonzalez made the quarter-finals with a 6-2 7-5 win over Robby Ginepri, and Marin Cilic beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6 6-3 6-2.
Safin said: "I decided to go with a lot of power on my serve and things went my way - there were no mistakes.
"Hopefully I can keep it going throughout the tournament, but I can't always dominate like this", he added.
