Sunday, 2 August 2009

CHITTAGONG, Aug 1 (UNB): The success of the government largely depended on the success of ensuring law and order situation, exhorted the newly appointed state minister for Home Shamsul Haq Tuku while addressing the senior police and RAB officials here Saturday.
He urged the law enforcers to put in their best to maintain stability at any cost. Now there was no alternative before his ministry but to ensure peace and stability.
Pointing to the rising trend of crimes, Tuku said terrorists, extortionists and 'tenderbaj' had no political colour. He asked the police and RAB personnel to deal with evil forces without fear or favour. They should be rooted out from the society, he added.
Chittagong Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) AKM Asaduzzaman Mian, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Chittagong Zonal RAB chief Col Zahid Rahim were, among others, present at the meeting.
In a separate meeting with garments factory owners the state minister urged them to coordinate with the law enforcers for ensuring peace in the industrial areas.
On demands of the workers that often vitiated the working atmosphere, he said their grievances should be redressed through discussion. In no way trouble-mongers from outside should be allowed to take advantage of workers' grievances.
If the factory management and law enforcers coordinate in maintaining peace, trouble-mongers were bound to retreat, he said.
A section of terrorists were trying to create unrest in the garments sector in the name of 'jhoote' (garment wastes) trade. They must be brought to book.
