Tulip Siddiq, the daughter of Sheikh Rehana, has sought support of Bangladeshis living in the United Kingdom in her bid to get elected to the upcoming House of Commons. She made the request while addressing a gathering of expatriate Bangladeshis in a fund-raising programme at the East London auditorium. Bangladesh-born British MP and former shadow minister Rushnara Ali was present in the fund raising programme for the elections. The programme was followed by a dinner. Tulip has been nominated by the Labour Party for the Hampstead and Kilburn constituency for the elections scheduled for May 7. During the last polls in 2010, the total number of voters in the constituency was 78,552, of which, almost 2,000 were Bengalis, according to the Labour Party. ‘You have supported us throughout our lives. You have helped my father, mother, grandfather (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) and everyone. Now I seek your support,’ Tulip said. ‘We want to see the Labour in power in Britain. No more coalition or Tory rule, we want to make Ed Miliband the prime minister,’ said the daughter of Sheikh Hasina’s sister, according to a news agency.
