Turnover crosses Tk 8.0b-mark again

Stocks ended flat amid volatile trading Thursday with turnover crossing Tk 8.0 billion-mark once again as investors went for buying spree amid optimism.The market opened with a positive note and the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose 35 points within first 30 minutes of trading.  But rest of the session, it declined amid modest see-saw, eventually ended flat.
At the end of the session, the prime index of the DSE --- DSEX-- went up by 4.65 points or 0.09 per cent to close the session at 4,753.17 points. However, the other two indices ended red. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also lost 2.60 points or 0.15 per cent to close at 1,660.35 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) declined 0.93 points or 0.09 per cent to 974.27 points.
The turnover on the DSE improved to Tk 8.56 billion, registering 36.52 per cent increase over the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 6.27 billion. Gainers beat losers 174 to 89, with 32 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. Activities also increased in the prime bourse. A total of 0.160 million trades were executed with 187.62 million shares and mutual fund units were trading volume. The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk 2,875.71 billion against Tk 2,849.41 in the previous session. Meghna Petroleum dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 410.41 million changing hands followed by Padma Oil, Generation Next Fashion, Tallu Spinning and Amra Technologies.BD Building was also the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.90 per cent while Golden Harvest Agro Industries was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 7.48 per cent. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed marginally higher, with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX gained 43.38 points to close at 9,376.03 points. Gainers beat losers 124 to 81, with 21 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 19.47 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 711.23 million.
