TV sets, tyers seized at Ctg port

CHITTAGONG, Oct 25: Chittagong Custom House (CCH) authority has seized two separate consignments of Rangs Television and tyers imported under false declaration and it is alleged, there were attempts at evading taxes worth around taka 2.5 million against those two imported consignments.
According to CCH sources, Hossain Enterprise, a sister organisation of Rangs Electronics imported 30 big sized ready made television sets falsely showing those as our import of the TV equipment. At the time of physical verification of the consignment at the port after taxation and later this false declaration was detected. The consignment was seized. If the importers could clear the consignments before detection the government would have been deprived of taka 2.1 million in revenue.
On the other hand, Customs Authority also seized another consignment of 540 pieces of tractor tyres used in agriculture. On physical verification, it was found that the imported tyers were meant for general transport and in this way, concerned importer tried to evade taxes amounting to more than taka 0.4 million.
