NARAYANGANJ, June 3 (UNB): A local court has framed charges against Rafiur Rabbi, convener of Santras Nirmul Twaki Mancha, in a case filed for making 'derogatory' remarks about the wife of Shamim Osman, MP.
Passing the order, Judicial Magistrate Ishtique Hossain on Tuesday fixed July 27 to formally start the trial with the deposition of witnesses.
On December 8 in 2014, city Awami League general secretary Advocate Khokan Saha filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against Rabbi for calling Shamim's wife Lipi Osman 'daughter of Razakar'.
Khokan Saha said Rabbi at a rally of the Santras Nirmul Twaki Mancha at Rail Gate in Sadar upazila on December 5, 2014 had said, "The father of Shamim Osman's wife was a razakar. So he is the son-in-law of a Razakar."
Rabbi had formed Twaki Mancha, a platform against terrorism, after the killing of his son Tanvir Mohammad Twaki in 2013. Twaki was found dead on March 8, 2013.
Rabbi, a cultural activist, blamed Shamim Osman for the murder from the beginning.
