A Narayanganj court has sentenced Nagarik Andalon leader Rafiur Rabbi to a year in prison in a cheque fraud case, reports bdnews24.com.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mamun-ur-Rashid delivered the verdict on Wednesday and also fined him Tk 21 million in the case filed five years ago.
Cultural activist Rabbi is the father of Tanvir Mohammad Twaki, who was kidnapped and murdered in March, 2013.
Rabbi, also the convener of the Narayanganj chapter of Shahbagh's Ganajagaran Mancha, has been accusing ruling Awami League leader and former MP AKM Shamim Osman and his family of killing Twaki.
The cheque fraud case was filed by Jalal Uddin of North Chashrha in July, 2010 accusing Rabbi.
The plaintiff's lawyer Advocate Masudur Rauf told the news agency that the accused would have to pay Tk 14 million of the amount fined to his client and deposit the rest in the state coffer.
Rabbi's lawyer Awlad Hossain said they will appeal against the verdict.
