Twin-bourse edges lower

Stocks edged lower for the two running sessions on Thursday with high volatility as investors followed cautious stance. The market opened with a downbeat note, which sustained till end of the session. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 9.14 points or 0.20 per cent to end the week at 4,502.16 points. The two others indices also ended in the red. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 2.51 points or 0.14 per cent to 1,711.36. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 0.54 points or 0.05 per cent to stand at 1,084.47 points.
However, DSE turnover improved to Tk3.35 billion, which was 15.5 per cent higher than the previous session’s Tk 2.90 billion. The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 318 traded issues, 175 closed lower, 96 higher and 47 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. IFAD Autos dominated the day’s turnover chart with shares worth Tk230.68 million changing hands followed by Titas Gas, Appollo Ispat, BRSM and Square Pharma.
National Tubes was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 11.72 per cent while BD Autocars was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 12.04 per cent.
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed lower with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – losing 27.84 points to end at 8,367.86 points.
The losers beat the gainers 63 to 138, with 38 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 6.44 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of Tk224 million.
