Two abductors held

KHULNA, Oct 12 (BSS):  Police arrested two abductors from Sathali village under Koyra upazila in the district today over a kidnapping charge.
The arrested are Akbor, 40, chief of an abduction syndicate in the Sunderbans, and his accomplice Noor Muhammad, 32.
Officer-in-charge of Detective Branch Police in Khulna district police said, on a tip-off, police went on an operation to Sathail village and nabbed the criminals.
The criminals confessed to police that they have abducted engineer Mahfuzur Rahman for ransom, he said.
On October 2 , a gang of criminals led by Akbor abducted Mahfuzur Rahman, executive engineer of Chittagong University (CU), from Khulna railway station area.
OC Rokonuzzaman told BSS that he (Mahfuzur) came to Khulna from Chittagong at the invitation of Akbor.
The abductors kidnapped him from the railway station and took him to the Sunderbans, OC said adding that they demanded Tk 0.6 million as ransom from Mahfuz's wife.
On information, police rescued Mr Mahfuzur from Hadda area under Koyra upazila in the Sunderbans through mobile tracking on October 3 while the abductors managed to flee from the spot.
A case was filed with Koyra Police Station in this connection.
